Anyone here know how to dechrome?? My front nacelle ( original built dec66) is starting to show its age and the chrome is flaking off! Had this happen to my shovelheads a few yrs back and tried to re-chrom only to find that the old pot metal didnt accept chrome real well, thus having to dechrome and PAINT high gloss balck! Will probably prime/ paint the nacelle when I finally find out HOW to TAKE that OLD crap off!

Johnny: You have a couple of options. Sand it down until it is dead smooth and no shine whatsoever, then prime it with sand and fill primer. (Sherwin-Williams auto paint store sells that in spraycans) and paint it. You can also polish it off with a buffer and some rough compound. (thats how they used to get the chrome off car bumpers to rechrome them) but it is messy, and a LOT of work.

I have used the sanding method on old chrome exhausts, painted them black and it has never fallen off..burned off, but never fell off. I have also done it to small chrome parts that the chrome was shot on, with good results. Lastly, have you looked into powdercoating?
hope this helps.
